Waterproofing the Internals of the Steam System 


Protecting your boiler tubes, steam turbine blades, and steam distribution piping from internal corrosion.

The research into the agent already started in 1970 at the Institute of Energetics in Leipzig, in co-operation with other research institutes. 

Long-term basic research and extensive test periods provided us with comprehensive experience regarding the application of the product as well as its effect on water- and heat-systems. 

The products are aqueous, lipo-amine emulsions.

The surface-active substance ODA® which is contained in the emulsions, is steam-fugacious and therefore gets into all areas of the circuit system. 

It adsorbs on the metal surfaces and forms a very thin, cohesive and hydrophobic protective layer. The latter is resistant to the usual substances present in water- and steam circuits. Thus corrosion and unwanted deposits are inhibited and existing deposits are gradually and carefully removed. 

Corrosion supporting agents, e.g. salts, are displaced from surfaces and crevices. 

All materials used in the circuits are protected and sealing materials as well as membranes made from Elastomeres will not be attacked. 

Due to low concentration levels in the applications the products are environmentally friendly and suffice to the modern ecological and economical demands. 

The handling does not require specific protective measures. 

The agent is supplied ready-to-dose in various cask sizes up to 1000l. On-site compounding is not required. The dosage is carried out with the usually commercially available dosage equipment.

THE BOILER HOUSE – A BASIC OVERVIEW OF A STEAM SYSTEM


The simplest boiler of all time.
The boiler is the heart of the steam system. The typical modern packaged boiler is powered by a burner which sends heat into the boiler tubes.

The hot gases from the burner pass backwards and forwards up to 3 times through a series of tubes to gain the maximum transfer of heat through the tube surfaces to the surrounding boiler water. Once the water reaches saturation temperature (the temperature at which it will boil at that pressure) bubbles of steam are produced, which rise to the water surface and burst. The steam is released into the space above, ready to enter the steam system. The stop or crown Valve isolates the boiler and its steam pressure from the process or plant.

Corrosion in Steam and Condensate Piping


Corrosion in pipes can advance into the interior parts of the metal over time, which may lead to pipe thinning and eventually pipe failure if left untreated. Furthermore, corrosion by-products are often carried downstream in piping, which can contaminate the fluid, cause the erosion and further corrosion of piping, and clog valve orifices.

ODACON® is a surface active substance and volatile in steam. It adsorbs on the metal surfaces and forms a monomolecular, hydrophobic protective layer. The latter is resistant to the usual substances present in water- and steam circuits. The main benefits of ODACON® implementation are:

–       Protection of the entire water- and steam system
–       Reduction of standstill corrosion during shutdown periods
–       Reduction of erosion, erosion corrosion, general corrosion during operation
–       Desorption of ionic impurities like chloride from surface deposits
–       Enhancement of heat transfer efficiency by modification of the surface characteristics

Due to low concentration levels in the applications the products are environmentally friendly and suffice to the modern ecological and economical demands.  For an application during operation the consumption is about 2 – 4 ml per ton of generated steam. For special treatments like preservation, the consumption is about 40 – 60 ml per ton of generated steam.  ODACON is an additional treatment program. The normal water treatment chemicals are still needed for pH stabilization.

Our team, many of which took part in the development of ODACON® and all related technologies, represent over 30 years of professional experience in the field of power station chemical engineering.

These long term experience and the constant further development of our product and service spectrum is the base for our success. This involves the development of specified products for the conservation of engines and cooling circuits as well as the design of cleaning technologies and custom-made applications for a large variety of different industrial firms.

With our comprehensive product and service spectrum we are successfully present in Germany as well as in other European countries like Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy for example.
